Our Story

It all started with a dream...

Sweet Dreams began making headboards and mattresses around 35 years ago and our aim remains the same: we provide top-quality products at the best prices with exemplary service.

We might have expanded to become one of the largest British manufacturers of beds in the country, yet our core operation continues to be the manufacture of divans and mattresses here in Lancashire and this is at the heart of everything we do. We offer six collections of divans, ranging from top-end luxury beds with diverse benefits to very affordable beds that still maintain specifications guaranteed to ensure comfort. In addition, there are headboards, adjustable beds, divan bases and a range of beds for the contract market. Importantly, we have built up a skilled British workforce who manufacture our famously wide range of divans, mattresses, upholstered frames – and upholstery too.

Over the years we’ve expanded our offer; for instance, we began the in-house manufacture of fabric upholstered beds offered in a selection of colours and designs. Sweet Dreams is proud to have been one of the first companies to introduce side-opening ottoman divan beds to the market and we continually strive to release new innovative products, whether in springs like the Pocket Air system, health-promoting mattress covers or integral storage. One of our biggest successes to date has been the launch of our British-made fabric upholstered TV beds, which were an instant hit on the high street. Our TV beds continue to be bestsellers. Our latest ranges of divans and divan/frame hybrids offer more colour choice as trends swing to the bed becoming a statement of style as well as substance.

We’re also proud to bring selected products manufactured overseas to the market. Children’s beds are a particular favourite with us. Ethical sourcing is a keystone of our buying strategy.

We have developed our range year-on-year and now boast an extensive range of bedroom furniture. In 2013 we invested £2million in a new, on-site warehouse facility to store our products, enabling us to offer express home delivery on many items. That year we also won Burnley’s Medium Business of the Year Award. In 2014 we were Highly Commended in the NBF’s (National Bed Federation’s) Bed Manufacturer of the Year Award as well as being awarded a Gold Standard from buyers’ group AIS. In 2017 AIS once again awarded us a Gold Standard, and we also became a supplier to buying group Minerva the same year. We remain an ardent and committed member of the NBF.

Yet even this isn’t the full story. Sweet Dreams offer a wide upholstery range, manufactured here in the UK. All achieve and often surpass the highest safety standards as well as those of taste and comfort. Sofas, chairs, corner units and a strong range of sofabeds and futons comprise this popular collection.

Our strength and our focus have always been on providing a quality product with exemplary service. Our network of stockists nationwide – large high street chains, small independent stores, everything in between – gives testament to how successfully we achieve our aims. We would like to thank all of our stockists in the UK and beyond for their continued support, and salute the consumers who buy our products. We trust our beds, furniture and sofas will bring them many years of enjoyment.

NBF Accredited Member

Buy a Sweet Dreams product with utmost confidence knowing that we are an NBF (National Bed Federation) Approved member. Membership of the NBF is now dependent on compliance with the Code, and to achieve that compliance every NBF manufacturer member has agreed to an independent audit against the Code’s strict criteria, conducted by BM TRADA, a major provider of independent certification, testing, inspection and technical services, which incorporates furniture specialists FIRA International Ltd. This is a great initiative which gives added confidence to the buyer knowing that the bed you will purchase or have purchased has been ethically manufactured. Here at Sweet Dreams we always ensure that the highest standard of ethics is used in our manufacturing process and we try to recycle as much waste as possible.

The Sleep Council

We are proud to be supporters of the sleep council organisation which spends a lot of time and effort on providing much valuable information about beds and selecting the right type of bed.We recommend anyone looking to purchase a bed to go through the bed guide from the sleep council as there is some excellent advice to ensure you find the right type of bed to suit your needs. It is not always straight forward to know what to look for when selecting bed so its best you take the advice before purchasing. Not only does the sleep council provide information of selecting a bed but it always provides excellent information on sleeping and what are the best known ways to have a more relaxing and deeper sleep.
